At times, lessons may be given by special arrangement, at other New England locations.

Lessons begin with understanding of the instrument, and development of basic technique. Lesson content is based on the traditional theory and practice of the Hindustani classical music of North India, for which the sitar was created.

The teachings combine traditional disciplines with a contemporary approach personally designed for each individual student, and employ an unique emphasis on ear training.

At least one lesson per week is recommended, but schedule may be adjusted to suit the individual student. Lessons should be close together at the beginning, as there is much detail to be learned in the first few sessions.

Assistance and recommendations are provided for those students who do not yet have an instrument, and wish to purchase one of suitable quality for serious study. It is advisable to have expert help from an experienced professional.

Also provided are set-up, repair, and regular maintenance services.

David Pontbriand is instructor of sitar on the faculty of
